Langston Hughes wrote Blues and Jazz flourished throughout the streets of New York, and young black artists began to arise [. . .] (63). An important part of this era had to be the inspirational writings of Langston Hughes. James Mercer Langston Hughes, born in Joplin, Missouri, February 1, 1902, was raised by his grandmother after his parents divorced (Sporre 551). He graduated from high school in Cleveland, Ohio and went off to Mexico to live with his father for fifteen months (Jackson 1). I want to be the President who educated young children to the wonders of the world. I want to be the President who helped to feed the hungry â⬠¦ the poor to find their own wayâ⬠¦ who helped to end hatred among his fellowmen and who prompted love among the people of all races and all religions and all parties. I want to be the President who helped to end war among the brothers of this earthâ⬠(ââ¬Å"An Outline of American Historyâ⬠, United States Information Agency, 87-203 (165), p.173, 174).
